Not much goin' on

Alas, I am home sick (but annoyingly, still having to work on Pennsic projects), and so, due to dial up, the petticoat stuff will have to wait until tomorrow.

But today, I can say that dancing is back on for this Friday night.  There is no concert at Orpheus, so I am going dancing.  Anyone in the area is welcome to join me - I'll be there around 9:30pm or so.

We have pushed back the last farm visit before Pennsic to the weekend after, so I am free to dance, dance, dance.  And I will.

More tomorrow!

I starting singing "Dancing Laurel" in my head (to the tune of Abba's hit), but it just isn't working... :/

Worked best during Kyneburh's reigns since she was also a casting Laurel.

"Casting Queen..."

But we could also take the route of "Attack dancing"

You can dance, you can snark, having the time of your life
See that girl, hear her scream, dig in Attack's dancing

Song lyrics???
How about this...

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your Laurels behind
Cause your Laurels don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're are no friends of mine...

On a different note... what kind of thread do you use? I am thinking I am remembering something about silk thread on the silk (which makes sense). But I'm making some linen stuff, and I don't have a ready source for linen thread. (And I really don't want to use Coat's n Clark, if I'm going to the trouble of hand sewing it all and everything.)

Would you recommend the silk thread for the linen as well, or should I just go with Gutterman's or something?

Actually, I recommend going to Hedgehog Handworks (www.hedgehoghandworks.com) and ordering some Londonderry linen thread and some beeswax. :)

The numbers on the thread work as follows: ply/size. So, a 2/30 would be a two-ply, thin thread - the higher the second number, the finer the thread. If you're used to working with ordinary sewing thread, 2/30 should feel about the same. You'll need beeswax to run over the thread so it doesn't snarl up, and linen thread is a little stiffer than cotton-wrapped thread, but if you're going to hand sew, you may as well go all the way and use the nice thread.

I see a real difference in my linen-sewn outfits, and the polyester core thread acts a little like a knife over time, slicing through natural materials (it's worse on wool; always use linen thread on wool).

I use silk thread from Halcyon Yarn on my silks, and linen thread on my linen and wool. :)

I'll second that vote for Londonderry linen thread, but I don't wax mine and still have no problem. Don't use pieces over about 30 inches though, or it does tend to wear to weakness from going through the fabric so many times.

Dancing sounds interesting, but I have a serious case of CTS (Caucasian Terpsichorian Syndrome).

My doctor has told me to avoid any dances after WWII, lest I suffer a near fatal self-esteem hemorrhage.
