Humidity kills!

People, I am dying of the heat.  It is easily 88 degrees in my office, and humid, since the air conditioning is not working, and will not be working for the foreseeable future.

I can't think.

But Bob and I were discussing the Pennsic party over the weekend, and I'd love to see people in their most authentic stuff.  The sponsoring website is extreme costuming, after all.  And the Attack Laurels, they have permission to strip and burn anyone who doesn't meet their exacting standards.

Or something.

What I really mean is that I'd really like to see the great things you guys have made - we can take photos, look fabulous, and make everyone who couldn't be there insanely jealous.  It will totally rock.  We could even gather the people with matching time periods together for group photos - that would be awesome.

I'm adding a small prize for the outfit I think most embodies the "extreme" ideal (The Dean thinks this is a good idea, since it will cause unrest), and I'll give it out at the same time as the door prizes.

Off  to melt in a little puddle, now.

No AC Here Either
Freaking hot. Drink your water. :-(

What is it about government buildings with craptacular AC units...oh yeah...lowest bidder...right.

Re: No AC Here Either
100 year old building, and a maintenance staff who aren't allowed to fix anything without twenty separate forms in triplicate...

I'd love to wear my most authentic stuff, but since it's dry-clean only, and makes me hot at 12th night, it stays home.

i can bring a picture though....
Jun. 9th, 2008 02:40 pm (UTC)
Pictures are good - but authentic doesn't have to mean flashy. Wear something that makes you feel good! :)
Jun. 9th, 2008 02:37 pm (UTC)
I wish I could come. Instead, I will cry into my pudding and plan some wonderfully extreme project to make while you are gone so you will all be jealous of my madd skilz when you get home. :-)

Salty pudding doesn't work - cry over ham. I look forward to seeing future awesomeness from you.

Seriously - if anything I've ever done inspires you to do something cool, I'm adding it to my resume. :)
Jun. 9th, 2008 02:37 pm (UTC)
I'm very much looking forward to meeting you.

Roman is authentic, right?

I am still puddly from Acorns and Pearls on Saturday. I was a Very Bad Tudor and took my soldiers coat off and was walking about in breeches and shirt! Most indecent to be sure!

Fortunately the official summer dress of the household of the Baron of Carolingia is Roman. So I am duty bound to be cool and comfortable at Pennsic. Or as near to cool and comfortable as can be arranged.

Will be there in full 16th c Italian...I think. It will be something documentable with appropriate papers for the Attack Laurels to tear it small pieces for pulp after using massive amounts of red pen look over if necessary. (Darn, I guess this means no "so right but so wrong" type outfits.... eh, i'll bring mine to Pennsic anyway. It's not like anyone will notice there...)

*pout* It's a 6000 mile round trip. I can only be there in effigy but we can always send an effigy for pin-stabbing voodoo-style by the Dean .

I bought an Attack Laurel necklace from acanthusleaf Saturday and gave it to marymont, telling her, see! Proof I didn't just give her grief!

I don't know if you saw my comment a few days ago, if so and you didn't have an answer, just ignore me. But I have some green silk, and some green wool, if you are interested in sash attack laurel party favors. I would be willing to make up some for you if you want them, (although I would machine sew the edges)

Heh - that's okay, but thanks for the thought. It's mostly a meet and greet, with a little humour in the middle.

It's an excuse for a party to meet all my LJ peeps (at least the ones who can come!).

Wool Campi gown already packed and ready to go. :-)

Now off to finish my decidedly NOT period tote bag with Henry VIII embroidered on the front. It is most excellent.

Acorns and Pearls hit at least 100°. In Connecticut. With humidity *clouds*.

^Look, I'm melting. (Photo by Master Liam.)

TRM East are in 14thc. English most of the time, no Roman for me.

Oh, hi!
Jun. 10th, 2008 09:47 am (UTC)
Well, you're melting adorably. :)

Hmm. Corset and Pennsic heat generally don't mix for me. I'll see how the pink turns out.

Just so you know the SCA has always really really intimidated me but I think I'm going to pensic this year just so I can meet you...You're a real role model in my world
