Fluff - but not a meme.

I made a new Righteous Smackdown[TM] icon:

I love the rabbids.

More later - if I think of something to write.

One more for the SCA-er's:

...because someone, somewhere has said this (about cellphones) at an event.

Well, of course someone would have used cell phones in the middle ages. However, that poor someone would have also later been burned as a witch or locked up in one of the mental facilities....personally, I'd much rather be burned as a witch.

cell phones
But they'd have had a clue and not used them in the middle of court. :)

Re: cell phones
Doubt it, sadly. I'm sure people were just as rude now as then.

And the tuesday service to Norwich would have been disturbed by people calling home to say, "I'm on the cart. I'll be there by friday."

Bah with the stupid people.

Re: cell phones
"what are you doing?"

"nothing. Just watching court. I'm in the front row, but it's really boring"

*shhhh!*

"yeah, someone's shushing me. Hold on..."

"ExcUUUUse me, I'm on the phone? Like, talking? You authenticity nazis just really hurt everyone's feelings, you know."

...Fortunately in the 15th century, they had real weapons with pointy bits, and the authority to use them.

"Your feelings aren't the only thing that'll be hurting by the time I'm done with you..."

I bought my nephews the Rabbids Wii video game for Christmas. It looked pretty funny. They hunt things with plungers. What a riot!

It looks like a scream, but I'll have to persuade one of my friends with a Wii to get it - we don't have one (nor are planning to get one - all that arm motion stuff is impossible for me, and they don't have any flying games for Bob).

Hmmm... I do believe it's been done already. A friend was in England over the summer and got back just before WW (Big Northshield summer camping event). For a friend who's a Doctor Who fan, she brought back an offical sonic screwdriver (it's also a pen!!!). His fiancee got a light up Tardis piggybank. I don't think either made it onto the rapier field the rest of the afternoon... *giggle*

Nice.

But I'd prefer the psychic paper. Especially when the King comes to us about 2 hours before court and dema- er, requests six scrolls. Ah, here you ARE! Aren't these the most excellent Persian dream scrolls you've ever seen! I even managed to get the right tint of mendi mixed with my own blood to make it juuuuussssst riiiiiiight!

Yeah, no one should ever let me have any of that.

Extreme Costuming Website Question
Good evening Mistress!
I am in the planning stages for beginning my Isabel Corset and would like to know which of these bonings you would recommend. I have not made a corset or stay before so will be going through my first "boning process". That being said I am partial to using the 1 MM round reed located here ~~

http://www.reconstructinghistory.com/index.php?c=111&d=144&w=24&r=Y

Would that be a good choice? Is "round reed" a better fit than "flat reed" ?

I'm planning to order it tomorrow. Will be using fabric that I already have on hand and have not sorted that out yet. Do I need to choose all the fabrics before knowing which kind of reed to use?

I'm planning to use some med weight cotton drill/canvas type even weave and linen.

Thanks for your help, Vrederun

Re: Extreme Costuming Website Question
I'm on dial-up right now, so I'm having trouble loading the page, but I use the thin round basketweaving reed (I think it's the standard size of 2-4mm; if your reed is thin enough to bend very easily, you will need to double the reeds in each sewn channel) for many of my corsets, and I like them. I find I get afraid that the flat reed will break - silly, I know, but that's me. However, other friends have used half-round and flat reed and reported positive results, so it's up to you. I trust Kass' products, and if she recommends it for corset boning, you will be fine. Do a couple of test channels and see how you like the bend, and what size the channels will be to see whether you want single or double reed channels. Like the pattern says (I think!), you want to leave a little room for movement in the length of the channel, but the reed should fit snugly to the sides of the channel.

You will need to make sure the ends are either smoothed or the fabric is reinforced at the stress points, but the kind of fabric you're using shouldn't be a probem. If the linen is much thinner than the drill, interface the linen, otherwise it will stretch more than the drill and leave you with wrinkles. It's usually best to make sure your fabric and lining are roughly the same weight and stretch.

Other than that, no - the reeds will work the same whatever fabric you use - keep in mind that thinner fabrics are more likely to give out at the wear points faster, so you can either bind the edges or put a little stip of extra lining/interfacing at the edges of the waistline and neckline where the reeds will hit the fabric.

If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me - my e-mail is on my site. Happy sewing! :)
