bun: eeeeeeee

Goodbye to all that

Today is moving day for me, tomorrow for Bob.  I leave for the farm in about 45 minutes, and it's goodbye to the apartment and 13 years of living.  The amount of trash we have thrown out is a little embarrassing (as is the collection of dust livestock behind the furniture), even with donating, selling, and recycling as much as we can.

Back to the dust livestock.  There are some parts of the apartment that have not been disturbed for a good ten years, and I'm ashamed to say that I pretty much never move large furniture to clean behind it.  I'm bad at housekeeping as it is, that kind of dedication to duty is waaaaaaay beyond me.  It's a good thing that the apartment complex is just going to trash the carpets and put in new ones, is all I'm sayin'.

In fact, our awesome Super told us not to bother to clean anything, since the apartment is going to be completely gutted and re-done (and the rent is going to be raised a good $500 a month; our rent has gone up slowly because our apartment has never been renovated), and nothing except the bathtubs are going to be saved (and they're going to put those "completely re-do your bathroom without ripping anything out!!!" shells over that, which is a good thing, because hair dye?  Stains.  Go figure).

It's going to be very strange moving after so long.

Even though we know the farm, and have spent weekends there, living there permanently is going to be very, very different.  No more shutting everything down, no more leaving after two days, no more having to warm/cool the place after two or three weeks' absence.  It's exciting, but stress-inducing.  Even with medication, I had all sorts of nightmares last night (at least I only woke Bob up once).  They say moving is one of the most stressful life experiences, and they're right.  At least we're moving into a place that's already set up; I remember when we moved to the apartment from Annapolis, it took weeks to get the cable and the internet set up, and it almost drove me spare.

(I need my TV time).

So, I'm going down today, the redoubtable pinkleader  and her sweetie will be joining me this evening, with a truckload of stuff, and Bob will appear tomorrow, with the movers either right before or right behind him.

A new chapter in our lives.  Let's hope it's an awesome chapter, with treasure, cool adventures, and baby vultures.
