Like all good weekends, it was good

I always find it interesting that it takes me days to recover from even pleasant weekends that are busy.

And it was a pleasant weekend.  Very pleasant.

First, we have awesome friends - the unforgettable theblueleader , dreadbaron , Vic, cathgrace , and anselmatthews  (and the kids) came to stay for the weekend, and I love having houseguests - it's what I envisioned for the farm when we first started building.  But in addition to their delightful company, they put up drywall in the garage (the complicated bits, too!), mowed the lawn, and helped put up the counter on the kitchen island.

I don't deserve such lovely friends, but I'm so glad I have them.

Bob and I also put up the blinds in the sitting room, and you'll be glad to know, cathgrace , that they are quite light-proof, and don't make the room look like a bordello at all (for the rest of you, they're dark red roman shades, and they look great).  I'll post pictures this evening (or tomorrow).

We came home on Monday, and in the mail I had the extra gilt thread I bought from Thistle Threads, and an extra surprise - one of the left-over tear-drop shaped owes from the lace on the Plimoth Jacket!

BTW, pinkleader  (jacket promoter extraordinaire), I'm sorry we didn't come out last night - Bob really wasn't feeling well, and we didn't want to be downers.  But wish your darling husband a happy birthday from both of us.  We'll take you guys out to dinner soon.

Anyway, we'll see you Thursday!  We're going to see Beth Patterson at Baldwin Station with a bunch of friends, including pinkleader and my inestimable lisettelaroux , who coordinated the tickets with everyone (I don't know what I'd do without her).

This weekend will be a bit more sober, since we'll be going to the memorial service for Courtney, known as Duchess Arielle in the SCA.

And, boring update of my life complete, here are some nature pictures I took at the farm:

We had a decent blackberry crop this year, considering I only had one day to pick - I got about a gallon of blackberries.

The road is full of small treasures.

Sometimes you just have to see a common flower in a new way...

The stream is always beautiful.

And small things are always fascinating:

It's bang in the center of Virginia, in a tiny town that no-one's ever heard of, that was founded by Welsh slate miners. :) It is beautiful.
