Squee!

I was putting out the fresh sugar nectar for the hummingbirds this afternoon, and before I had even hung up the feeder, the first hummingbird flew in, started feeding, and actually landed on the feeder and sat while I was holding it.  I was six inches away from a hummingbird for at least 15 seconds.

Best wildlife encounter ever.

Yeah, it was. :) I was all OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG DON'T.MOVE.DON'T.BREATHE, but I so wanted Bob to see it. Alas, as soon as I spoke (quietly), the spell was broken, and he flew away.

So tiny!

that sounds much nicer than my sister's encounter with a humming bird, she was running round the side of our house when she crashed into one, it hit her square in the chest and she bled a little from the puncture wound (she says the bird flew away after a second, so hopefully no permanent damage was done!)

One summer, there was a hummingbird nesting above where I parked my car, when I was still living with my parents. It was the cooling thing, ever.

This is *why* I go through the trouble of making the syrup and refilling the feeder. One view of a flying jewel makes the entire effort of summer worthwhile.

For some reason, I have always equated you with a hummingbird. Delicate, beautiful, colorful, and kind of elusive.
